Williams Scores 22 In SAU Women's Basketball Loss To Johnson C. Smith

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Jan. 20) – Kaaliya Williams (So./Richmond, VA) scored 22 points for Saint Augustine's University in a 75-58 CIAA women's basketball loss to Johnson C. Smith University at Brayboy Gymnasium on Saturday.

Williams was 8 of 12 from the floor including 1 of 1 behind the three-point line. Ranked fourth nationally in Division II in free throw percentage, the Lady Falcons' sophomore made 5 of 7 free throw attempts and added five rebounds.


Quiera Gilmore (R-So./Charlotte, NC) added 12 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals for the Lady Falcons, who knocked down 4 of 10 three-point attempts for 40 percent. Kelsee Arnold (Jr./Fayetteville, GA) totaled five points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals and Tomisha Davis (Sr./New Bern, NC) chipped in five points and four rebounds.

Williams scored 14 first-half points to keep the Lady Falcons in striking distance early. The Lady Falcons fell behind 17-8 after the first period but Williams led a second-period rally with 10 points including a layup as time expired as the Lady Falcons closed the margin to 30-27 at halftime. The Lady Falcons, sparked by Williams, outscored the Golden Bulls 19-13 in the second period.

But the Golden Bulls opened the third period with a 14-0 run to take control of the contest at 44-27. Their lead increased to 23 points in the fourth period before the Lady Falcons made a late run.

Malia Rivers scored 19 points and Kendall Adams added 16 points for the Golden Bulls, who won the rebounding battle 48-38 for a 20-6 advantage in second chance points. Jasmine Carter contributed 12 points.

After five straight road games, the Lady Falcons will host crosstown rival Shaw University at Emery Gymnasium on Wednesday, Jan. 24, in Raleigh, N.C. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m.
