SAU Women's Basketball Defeats Livingstone 77-62 For Second Consecutive Win

SALISBURY, N.C. (Jan. 27) – Kaaliya Williams (So./Richmond, VA) finished with 23 points and eight rebounds as Saint Augustine's University pulled away late to topple Livingstone College 77-62 at New Trent Gymnasium for their second straight women's basketball victory on Saturday.

Kamya Renwicks (So./Baltimore, MD) added 15 points and Quiera Gilmore (R-So./Charlotte, NC) totaled 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Falcons (2-2 Southern Division, 6-13 overall), whose two-game victory streak is the first since 2015. Their six wins also equaled their victory total from the previous two years combined. They also beat Livingstone in Salisbury, N.C., for the first time since 2012.


Bianca Igwe (Jr./Tampa, FL) contributed eight points and seven rebounds and Paulette Addison (Sr./Wilmington, NC) tallied seven points as the Lady Falcons scored their second-highest point total this season. Angela Caraballo (So./Richmond, VA) chipped in six points and four rebounds while Tomisha Davis (Sr./New Bern, NC) had five points and five rebounds for the Lady Falcons, who connected on 28 of 34 free throw attempts for 82.4 percent, their second-highest percentage this season. Williams, who ranks eighth nationally in Division II in free throw percentage, was a perfect 11 of 11 from the charity stripe and Renwicks was 9 of 12.

The Lady Falcons relied on free throws to hold off the Lady Blue Bears (0-4 Southern Division, 5-14 overall) after taking control early. Williams hit two free throws for a 50-34 advantage late in the third period but the Lady Blue Bears came within seven points twice in the fourth period, the last time at 64-57 with 3:26 remaining.

A 13-5 run by the Lady Falcons finished off the Lady Blue Bears. The Lady Falcons made 7 of 9 free throws, including 5 of 6 from Renwicks, during the final spurt.

Williams scored 13 first-half points including 11 in the second period for the Lady Falcons, who led 36-29 at halftime. The sophomore forward scored nine straight points to help push their lead to 35-23 with 2:12 left in the period. The Lady Blue Bears ended the half on a 6-1 run to cut the Lady Falcons' lead to seven points at the half.

The trio of Gilmore, Renwicks and Addison each scored four points in the first half. The Lady Falcons made 11 of 13 free throw attempts for 84.6 percent in the first half.

For the contest, the Lady Falcons outscored the Lady Blue Bears 29-10 in turnover points and 26-16 in points in the paint. The Lady Falcons forced 21 Livingstone turnovers and recorded nine steals, led by four from Renwicks.

Taylor Perkins had 16 points and nine rebounds for the Lady Blue Bears, who lost their 10th consecutive game. Tianna Deberry added 13 points and Asia Green scored 12 points.

The Lady Falcons will play four of their final six regular-season games at home inside Emery Gymnasium starting Saturday, Feb. 3, against Fayetteville State University. Tipoff is 2 p.m.
