SAU Women's Basketball Rallies Late In Loss To Lincoln (Pa.)

RALEIGH, N.C. (Jan. 6) – NCAA Division II free throw leader Kaaliya Williams (So./Richmond, VA) scored 19 points and snatched nine rebounds as Saint Augustine's University scared Lincoln (Pa.) University in a 72-61 CIAA women's basketball loss on Saturday at Rivero Hall in Lincoln University, Pa.

The Lady Falcons nearly rallied from a 15-point deficit in the fourth period. They trailed 61-46 with 5:50 left but Kiana Clark (So./Queens, NY) nailed a three-pointer to get the Lady Falcons within 62-55 with 2:22 remaining. The Lions finished the game on a 10-6 run to secure the win.


Williams was a perfect 5-for-5 at the free throw line with three steals against the Lions. She is 53 of 55 from the charity stripe for 96.4 percent this season.

Angela Caraballo (Jr./Richmond, VA) added 10 points and Tomisha Davis (Sr./New Bern, NC) contributed eight points for the Lady Falcons. Paulette Addison (Sr./Wilmington, NC) totaled seven points, Bianca Igwe (Jr./Tampa, FL) collected eight rebounds and Kelsee Arnold (Jr./Fayetteville, GA) finished with four steals.

The Lady Falcons (1-4 CIAA, 4-10 overall) trailed 52-34 with 2:10 left in the third period but scored 12 straight points between the third and fourth periods to cut the deficit to six points. Nikiya Mumphrey (Jr./Garner, NC) assisted on a Caraballo three-pointer and canned a jumper to pull the Lady Falcons within 52-46 with 9:06 remaining in the game. The Lions pushed their lead back to double digits before the Lady Falcons made a final run.

McKenzie Spencer scored 14 points to lead four double-figure scorers for the Lions (4-1 CIAA, 9-4 overall). Michelle Fitzgerald had 13 points while Teira Pendleton and Shahra Madison each scored 11 points with Madison tallying 11 rebounds.

The Lions turned the ball over 27 times against the Lady Falcons, who are among the nation's leaders in forcing turnovers. The Lady Falcons outscored the Lions 22-19 in turnover points.

But the Lions won the battle of the boards 62-35 including a 21-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. They outscored the Lady Falcons 18-7 in second chance points.

The Lady Falcons will play their third CIAA road contest in five days on Monday, Jan. 8, against Virginia Union University. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m. in Richmond, Va.
