Clark Scores 18 In SAU Women's Basketball Loss To Virginia Union

RALEIGH, N.C. (Jan. 8) – Kiana Clark (So./Queens, NY) tied a career-high with 18 points for Saint Augustine's University in a 104-57 CIAA women's basketball loss to nationally-ranked Virginia Union University on Monday at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.

 

Clark knocked down 6 of 11 three-point shots for the Lady Falcons. The six three-pointers tied a career-high in one game for the Lady Falcons' guard. She added five rebounds, two assists and one steal.

 

Kaaliya Williams (So./Richmond, VA) added 14 points and five rebounds. The NCAA Division II free throw leader hit 6 of 8 free throw attempts. As a team, the Lady Falcons made 13 of 17 free throws for 76.5 percent.

 

But the Lady Falcons shot 27.1 percent from the floor in the loss. The Lady Panthers, who shot 42.5 percent from the floor, built a 26-13 first-period lead and never looked back in winning their 14th straight game.

 

Angela Caraballo (So./Richmond, VA) finished with six points, six rebounds and three assists for the Lady Falcons (1-5 CIAA, 4-11 overall). Both Quiera Gilmore (So./Charlotte, NC) and Paulette Addison (Sr./Wilmington, NC) had six points and five rebounds with Gilmore adding five assists.

 

Alexis Johnson totaled 18 points, 17 rebounds, seven blocks and three steals for the Lady Panthers, ranked ninth nationally in the WBCA Division II Coaches Poll. The Lady Panthers (6-0 CIAA, 14-1) were last year's Division II national finalists.

 

Shameka McNeill added 17 points and Shareka McNeill scored 15 points while Rachael Pecota contributed 14 points for the Lady Panthers, who outscored the Lady Falcons 35-5 in turnover points and 26-12 in second chance points.

 

After completing a three-game, five-day away schedule, the Lady Falcons take a short break before hitting the road again Saturday, Jan. 13, against Winston-Salem State University in their Southern Division opener. Game time is 2 p.m. at the Gaines Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
