SAU Women's Basketball Rallies Past Livingstone 70-63

RALEIGH, N.C. (Feb. 22) – Kaaliya Williams (So./Richmond, VA) poured in a game-high 24 points as Saint Augustine's University rallied past Livingstone College 70-63 at Emery Gymnasium in the final home regular-season basketball game for the Lady Falcons this season on Wednesday, Feb. 21.

 

The Lady Falcons improved 7-17 overall and 3-6 in the Southern Division with the victory. They are fourth in the division with one game left in the regular season.

 

Williams connected on 7 of 14 shots from the floor including 3 of 5 from three-point land. One of the nation's top Division II free throw shooters, Williams was a perfect 7 of 7 from the charity stripe.

 

She helped spark a late comeback for the Lady Falcons, who trailed 60-57 with three minutes left. The Lady Falcons went on a 13-3 spurt to sweep the Lady Blue Bears, who fell to 6-19 overall and 1-8 in the Southern Division. The Lady Falcons won the first meeting 77-62 in Salisbury, N.C., on Jan. 27.

 

Tomisha Davis (Sr./New Bern, NC) added 12 points and Angela Caraballo (So./Richmond, VA) chipped in nine points for the Lady Falcons, who were 6 of 13 behind the three-point arc for 46.2 percent. Quiera Gilmore (R-So./Charlotte, NC) and Kelsee Arnold each contributed seven points.

 

Free throws keyed the Lady Falcons' win on Wednesday. They knocked down 26 of 39 free throws for 66.7 percent while the Lady Blue Bears were 13 of 28 for 46.4 percent.

 

Nina Robinson scored 15 points to pace four double-figure scorers for Livingstone. Kedra Bradley, I'Keya Bland and Taylor Perkins each scored 11 points.

 

The contest was close throughout with 23 lead changes and 14 ties. After falling behind 14-12 in the first period, the Lady Falcons outscored the Lady Blue Bears 14-9 in the second period for a 26-23 halftime lead. The Lady Falcons led at halftime for only the fifth time this season. Their record is 4-1 when leading at the half.

 

The Lady Falcons visit Fayetteville State University in the regular-season finale on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m. Capel Arena is the site of the contest.
