SAU Women's Basketball Falls To Fayetteville State

RALEIGH, N.C. (Feb. 3) – Four players scored in double figures for Saint Augustine's University in a 70-54 CIAA women's basketball loss to Fayetteville State University at Emery Gymnasium on Saturday.

Kaaliya Williams (So./Richmond, VA) paced the Lady Falcons with 18 points. Kelsee Arnold (So./Fayetteville, GA) added 11 points and Quiera Gilmore (R-So./Charlotte, NC) and Angela Caraballo (So./Richmond, VA) each scored 10 points. Gilmore pulled down eight rebounds.

The Lady Falcons (2-3 Southern Division, 6-14 overall) started slowly as they fell behind 16-5 at the end of the first period. They rallied within two at 21-19 on Caraballo's three-point play but the Broncos ended the first half on a 13-3 run for a 34-22 halftime lead. The Broncos began the third period on a 14-3 run for a 48-25 lead and never looked back in the second half.

Shantel Bennett scored 13 points and Jamesha Mosley added 11 points for the Broncos (5-0 Southern Division, 9-9 overall), who lead the Southern Division. Yakima Clifton added 10 points.

The Lady Falcons host the second of three consecutive home games Wednesday, Feb. 7, against Winston-Salem State University at Emery Gymnasium. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m.
