SAU Women's Basketball Visits William Peace Wednesday (Nov. 27) In Possible First-Ever Meeting Between Raleigh Schools

RALEIGH, N.C. (Nov. 26) – Saint Augustine's University (SAU) will travel a few blocks from campus to visit William Peace University in a women's basketball contest on Wednesday, Nov. 27. Tipoff is 2 p.m. at the Hermann Athletic Center.

This is the first women's basketball meeting between the Raleigh schools in recent memory.

The much improved Lady Falcons (2-2 overall) are looking to enter Thanksgiving break with a victory. They are coming off two straight losses, but the margin was a combined seven points.

The SAU women will bring one of the nation's top defenses to the Hermann Athletic Center. They rank 17th in Division II in turnovers forced (24.5) and 31st in steals per game (12.0). The Lady Falcons are the CIAA co-leaders in steals per game and rank third in the CIAA in field goal percentage defense (34.7).

Quiera Gilmore (Sr./Charlotte, NC) spearheads the SAU defense, ranking sixth nationally in Division II in steals per game (4.0). She leads the Lady Falcons in scoring (15.8 ppg) followed by Kaaliya Williams (Sr./Richmond, VA) with a 14.0 average.

Angela Caraballo (Sr./Richmond, VA) averages 8.0 points and Shankia Clark (Sr./Orlando, FL) averages 6.0 rebounds. Jordyn Burton (So./Durham, NC) ranks third in the CIAA in blocks per game (1.3).

The Pacers, a Division III school, are off to their best start (5-1 overall) since the 2004-05 season when they started with an identical record after six games. Included in the wins is a victory over 25th-ranked Christopher Newport University last week.

William Peace is strong defensively as well, ranking 28th nationally in three-point field goal defense (20.9 percent) and 11th in defensive rebounds per game (34.4). The Pacers lead all Division III teams in blocks (38).

Mikayla Ray leads the Pacers offensively and defensively. She ranks seventh nationally in double doubles (4) and ranks 20th nationally in blocked shots per game (3.1). The senior forward averages 15 points and leads the team in rebounds (10.3), field goal percentage (57.7) three-point percentage (75.0) and blocks (18). Lauren Cross, the team's scoring leader (15.5), has made 11 of 21 three-point attempts for 52.4 percent.
