SAU Softball Hosts Crosstown Rival Shaw In Divisional Doubleheader Tuesday (April 16)

RALEIGH, N.C. (April 15) – Saint Augustine's University enters the final stretch of its CIAA Southern Division softball schedule with a home doubleheader against crosstown rival Shaw University at Lions Park on Tuesday, April 16, starting at 12 p.m. The twinbill is free and the open to the public.

The doubleheader is the first of eight division games left for the Lady Falcons, who are battling three teams, including Shaw, for the No. 4 Southern Division seed in the CIAA Championship Tournament. They are currently fifth in the standings with two weeks left in the regular season.

The top four teams in the Southern Division and the top four teams in the Northern Division at the end of the regular season advance to the CIAA Tournament, which is scheduled for April 29-May 1 in Salem, Va. The tournament site is Moyer Park.

Leading the Lady Falcons (0-4 Southern Division, 1-15 overall) is the tandem of Makayla August (Jr./Palm Springs, CA) and Haley Sessoms (Jr./Kenansville, NC). August ranks seventh (.436) and Sessoms is tied for ninth in the CIAA in batting average (.417).

As a pitcher, August is tied for fifth in strikeouts (67) in the CIAA. For Shaw (2-4 Southern Division, 3-15 overall), Kiana Rogers ranks fifth in the CIAA in batting average (.439).

The twinbill was originally scheduled on April 6 at Lions Park but was postponed due to the threat of inclement weather. Last season, the Lady Falcons split their doubleheader against the Lady Bears at Worthdale Park, winning 13-5 in the first game and losing 8-6 in the second game on April 14, 2018.
