SAU Softball Hosts Livingstone In Doubleheader On Senior Day Thursday (April 18)

RALEIGH, N.C. (April 17) – Fresh off a sweep of Shaw University, Saint Augustine's University concludes its home softball schedule against Livingstone College at Lions Park on Thursday, April 18, starting at 12 p.m. The Lady Falcons will recognize infield standout Haley Sessoms (Kenansville, NC) between games on Senior Day.

The Lady Falcons are gaining momentum after winning two from Shaw at Lions Park Tuesday. They defeated the Lady Bears 3-1 and 6-5 to move into fourth place in the CIAA Southern Division standings with one and a half weeks left in the regular season. Eight teams – the top four in the Northern and Southern Divisions - qualify for the CIAA Championship Tournament, which is April 29-May 1 in Salem, Va.

Sessoms, an All-CIAA infielder, has been a steady force on a young Lady Falcons' squad including five freshmen and four sophomores. She is second on the team and eighth in the CIAA in batting average (.418) and tied for ninth in the conference in fielding double plays (4) as a shortstop and third baseman. She is the Lady Falcons' most reliable infielder on defense.

Sessoms is a junior on the field but a senior in the classroom. She is expected to graduate in May.

Junior All-American Makayla August (Palm Springs, CA) paces the Lady Falcons (2-4 Southern Division, 3-15 overall) in hitting and pitching. She ranks sixth in batting average (.435) and eighth in on-base percentage (.527) in the CIAA. As a pitcher, August is third in the CIAA in strikeouts (78).

For Livingstone (0-8 Southern Division, 0-22 overall), Rebecca Brown is the team's leader in batting average (.271) and runs batted in (8).
