SAU Women's Basketball Hosts Three Games This Week Starting Monday (Jan. 27, 29, Feb. 1)

RALEIGH, N.C. (Jan. 26) – Owner of a two-game win streak, Saint Augustine's University (SAU) seeks more victories this week with three home women's basketball games on tap at Emery Gymnasium.

The Lady Falcons start the week with a home contest against Johnson C. Smith University on Monday, Jan. 27, at 5:30 p.m. Two days later, Claflin University comes to Emery Gymnasium for a 5:30 p.m. tilt on Wednesday, Jan. 29. On Saturday, Feb. 1, SAU faces Fayetteville State University in a 2 p.m. contest. All three teams are in the CIAA Southern Division.

Tickets are $13 for general admission as part of a doubleheader with the men's game and $8.50 for the following with valid ID: visiting students, SAU faculty, SAU staff, senior citizens, military personnel and youth ages 6 to 12. Admission is free for SAU students with valid ID and youth ages five and under per one paying adult.

SAU started its four-game homestand on Saturday, Jan. 25, with a satisfying 73-60 victory over crosstown rival Shaw University. Kaaliya Williams (Sr./Richmond, VA) led a balanced scoring attack with 16 points and Milequa Eason (Jr./Woodland, NC) added 15 points while Tanisha Wall (Sr./Franklinton, NC) and Quiera Gilmore (Sr./Charlotte, NC) both chipped in 10 points. The Lady Falcons, among the nation's leaders in forcing turnovers, scored 24 points off 16 Shaw miscues.

Williams ranks ninth in the CIAA in scoring (12.4) and first in free throw shooting (86.2 percent). Renwicks is also good from the free throw line (74.0/9th in CIAA) and on the defensive end of the floor. She is tied for eighth in steals (1.9). Shankia Clark (Sr./Orlando, FL) ranks tied for ninth in rebounds (6.3) and Jordyn Burton (So./Durham, NC) is tied for sixth in the conference in blocks (0.9).

Gilmore and Renwicks average 9.8 points and 9.7 points, respectively, for the Lady Falcons, who have won three of their last four games.

Fayetteville State (8-2 CIAA, 11-8 overall) is the CIAA Southern Division leader and Johnson C. Smith (5-4 CIAA, 9-9 overall) sits in second place. Claflin (0-10 CIAA, 0-18 overall) is winless but the Lady Falcons eked out a 63-61 win on the road in December 2019. The Lady Falcons are fifth in the Southern Division.

Le'Zarea Bowens and Aubrianna Bonner both lead the Golden Bulls in scoring (11.4) and are among league's top 10 players in rebounding. Bonner ranks third (8.4) and Bowens is tied for ninth (6.3). Dionna Long (12.1) and Dashia Jackson (11.6) are the top two scorers for Claflin.

Katisha Hyman is the Broncos' top offensive player. She ranks third in the CIAA in points per game (18.0), second in three-point field goal percentage (42.4), fourth in field goal percentage (44.1) and free throw percentage (81.4), and tied for first in three-point field goals made (2.8). Hyman also is tied for fourth in steals (2.8).
