SAU Women's Basketball Hosts Nationally-Ranked Virginia Union Monday (Jan. 6)

RALEIGH, N.C. (Jan. 5) – After a two-week holiday break, Saint Augustine's University (SAU) hits the court for the first time in 2020 on Monday, Jan. 6, against nationally-ranked Virginia Union University in a women's basketball game at Emery Gymnasium. Game time is 5:30 p.m.

Tickets are $13 for general admission and $8.50 for senior citizens, military personnel with valid ID, faculty, staff, visiting college students and children ages 6-12 as part of a doubleheader. The contest is free for SAU students and children ages 5 and under per one paying adult.

Live video and live stats are on saintaugfalcons.com, the official athletic website of Saint Augustine's University. Live video is also on the CIAA Sports Network (theciaasn.com).

The contest is a non-conference matchup between CIAA schools. They play again in a conference game on Feb. 3 in Richmond, Va.

An improved Lady Falcons squad will look to stun a Virginia Union team ranked seventh nationally in the WBCA Coaches Poll and eighth in the D2SIDA Poll. SAU will rely on a defense ranked sixth in the nation in forcing turnovers (25.4).

The Lady Falcons (5-6 overall) are led by Kaaliya Williams (Sr./Richmond, VA), who ranks 10 in the CIAA in scoring (13.2 ppg) and second in field goal percentage (48.7). Quiera Gilmore (Sr./Charlotte, NC) averages 11.9 points and Kamya Renwicks (Sr./Baltimore, MD) averages 8.8 points.

Gilmore is tied for second (2.7 spg) and Renwicks ranks ninth (2.3 spg) in steals in the CIAA. As a team, the Lady Falcons rank third in the conference in steals (10.2 spg). Renwicks also ranks eighth in free throw percentage (77.5) and Jordyn Burton (So./Durham, NC) is tied for sixth in blocks (1.0 bpg).

The two-time defending CIAA champion Lady Panthers (9-1 overall) possess the nation's leading scorer in All-American Shareka McNeill (32.1 ppg), but she has missed the last two games. Twin sister Shameka McNeill, Dy'Manee Royal and Jasmine Carter have picked up the slack in Shareka McNeill's absence.

Shameka McNeill averages 11.7 points and ranks first in the CIAA in assist/turnover ratio and second in assists (4.6). Royal ranks third (9.5 rpg) and Carter is fifth (8.3) in rebounds per game in the conference. The Lady Panthers lead the CIAA in steals (12 spg).
