SAU Softball Begins Season At USC Aiken On Sunday (Feb. 9)

RALEIGH, N.C. (Feb. 8) – Saint Augustine's University opens the 2020 softball season in a doubleheader on the road against USC Aiken in Aiken, S.C., on Sunday, Feb. 9. The first game starts at 2 p.m. followed by the second game at approximately 4 p.m.

The Lady Falcons return nine players from last season including standout utility player Makayla August (Palm Springs, CA), who was named to the All-CIAA and Division II HBCU preseason teams. August is a two-time All-CIAA player and 2018 Fastpitch News All-American who helped the Lady Falcons capture the 2018 CIAA Southern Division crown. She led the nation among Division II batters in doubles per game as a sophomore and triples per game as a freshman.

August leads a Lady Falcons' squad featuring infielder Briana Person (So./Jarratt, VA), infielder-outfielder Chandra Mackey (Jr./Nassau, Bahamas), second baseman-outfielder Noel McNeil (So./Temple Hills, MD), outfielder Celine Jones (Jr./Grand Bahama, Bahamas), catcher-outfielder Gia Minnis (So./Nassau, Bahamas), outfielder Tatyana Hall (So./Greensboro, NC), first baseman Mimi Morris (Jr./Nassau, Bahamas) and first baseman Kayla Jordan (So./Charlotte, NC).

The newcomers are utility player Shaquelle Bain (So./Nassau, Bahamas), outfielder Dawayna Pratt (So./Nassau, Bahamas), outfielder Noemi Garo (So./Tela Honduras) and infielder Yasmine Thompson (Fr./Charlotte, NC). Head coach is Dorothy Neal and assistant coach is Reginald Cooper.

USC Aiken enters the contest with a 2-0 overall record. Katie Painter leads the Pacers with a .667 batting average and Katelyn Powell has four RBIs in two games.
