SAU Women's Basketball Hurt By Slow Start In CIAA Tourney Loss

Box Score BALTIMORE (Feb. 22) – Jada Swafford (Sr./Alexandria, LA) had the hot hand for Saint Augustine's University, but the Lady Falcons started slowly in a 67-54 first-round loss to Winston-Salem State at the CIAA Tournament inside Royal Farms Arena on Tuesday.

Swafford pumped in 15 points, all in the second half, as the ninth seed Lady Falcons tried to rally from a 13-point halftime deficit.

The Lady Falcons closed within seven points three times in the third period, but the eighth seed Rams pushed the lead back to double digits. The Rams' lead increased to 19 points late in the fourth period.

Taniyah Greene (Fr./Cheltenham, MD) added 12 points on 5 of 7 shooting for the Lady Falcons, whose season ended at 10-15 overall. They posted a 6-4 record in the Southern Division, which tied for the second-best mark in the division.

The Lady Falcons were 8-5 at home inside Emery Gymnasium.

Milequa Eason (Grad. /Woodland, NC) contributed four points, four assists and four steals. Dasmine Kasey (Jr./Roanoke, VA) had four points, four rebounds and four assists for the Lady Falcons, who fell behind 32-19 at halftime after being outscored 14-7 in the second period.

Kennedi Simmons collected 12 points and Tyliah Burns had 11 points for the Rams (12-12 overall), who outrebounded the Lady Falcons 43-30. They face top seed Lincoln (Pa.) in the quarterfinals Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
